On Friday 9 October 2026, Make IT For Africa (MIFA) marked Customer Service Week with a free IELTS workshop at our centre in Bamenda. This year's theme was The Extra Mile, and we wanted to spend the morning with the people the theme is about: our IELTS test takers.

The session was open to anyone taking, or thinking about taking, the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with us. About 20 people took part, including MIFA staff. Here is how the morning went.

Prayer, introductions and encouragement

We opened with a prayer and a round of introductions, so everyone knew who was in the room. Our tutors, Abongwi Sirri Gwewasang and Nsaidzeka Florence, then shared a word of encouragement and practical advice for preparing well and staying calm on test day.

A quiz with prizes

Next came a short quiz on the test. The winners each took home a MIFA gift bag.

Registration and choosing the right test

We then went through how IELTS registration works at MIFA and how to choose the right test, from IELTS Academic and General Training to IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills. Many questions came back to the same choice: IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. The answer depends on why you are taking the test, so check what your university, employer or visa authority asks for before you book.

Questions, snacks and photos

The questions and answers session gave everyone time to ask about their own situation. We closed with snacks, closing remarks and group photos.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to our tutors Abongwi Sirri Gwewasang and Nsaidzeka Florence, and to the staff who gave their morning to it. Going the extra mile for test takers is not just for one week. It is how we want every registration, class and test day at MIFA to feel.
