Question 20

Which vocational departments are open now?

Accepted Answer

The departments taking learners now are listed on the Vocational Training Institute page, with their specialities, entry levels and indicative fees. The other departments are listed there as not yet open, and you can register your interest in any of them.

Question 21

What is the difference between a DQP and a CQP?

Accepted Answer

Both come from Cameroon's Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP). A DQP (Vocational Qualification Diploma) is for trades with a nationally harmonised programme, and you sit a national examination. A CQP (Vocational Qualification Certificate) is for trades not yet harmonised nationally: the Institute sets the examination, the ministry supervises it and issues the certificate. Each speciality shows which one it leads to.

Question 22

What do FSLC, GCE O Level and CAP mean in the entry levels?

Accepted Answer

They are the minimum certificates for a speciality. The FSLC is the First School Leaving Certificate from primary school. The GCE Ordinary Level is the secondary school certificate, and the CAP (Certificat d'Aptitude Professionnelle) is accepted in its place. Some specialities ask for Lower Sixth, Upper Sixth or the GCE Advanced Level. If you are not sure, bring your certificates and we will check with you.

Question 23

Are the vocational course fees fixed?

Accepted Answer

No. The fee shown for each speciality is indicative. We confirm the current fee with you before you enrol. See the departments open now for each speciality's indicative fee.

Question 24

Can I take a short course instead of a long one?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Short practical courses run from a few weeks to a few months and lead to an attestation from the Institute. Training can also be designed around a specific skill you need. Both draw on the same departments as the long courses. See the three ways to train, then ask us what is available in the trade that interests you.

Question 25

Is vocational training in person or online?

Accepted Answer

Both. Practical work happens in person at our centre in Bamenda, and parts of the theory, demonstrations and follow-up can be done online. Long courses also include an internship in a real workplace.
