Hands-on trade skills that lead to employment, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
The Vocational Training Institute
Our vocational and technical training is run by the Vocational Training Institute of Make IT For Africa (VTI-MIFA). It is organised in departments, each training in a small number of specialities. Long courses prepare you for a Vocational Qualification Certificate (CQP) or Diploma (DQP) from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training.
A practical, hands-on approach
You learn by doing, guided by trainers, building skills you can put to work straight away. Training moves between the classroom, the workshop and a real workplace, where long courses include an internship. The emphasis is on real competence, the ability to do the work well, not just to pass a test.
What you can train in
The Institute's departments cover computing and IT, social studies, business, mechanics and motor vehicles, building trades, electrical and renewable energy, hospitality, fashion and beauty, and agro-pastoral trades. Not every department is open yet: the departments taking learners now are listed with their entry levels and indicative fees.
If you are not ready for a long course, short practical courses and training designed around a specific skill draw on the same departments.
Who it is for
Women and youth looking for a practical route into employment or self-employment, and workers who want to upgrade their skills.
Where it leads
Vocational training can lead to a job, self-employment, or starting a small enterprise. Our mentoring and volunteering support can help you take the next step.
