A study-abroad document checklist

Applying to study abroad can feel overwhelming, and a lot of it comes down to paperwork. This is a general checklist of the documents you are likely to need. Always check the exact requirements with the institution and the relevant authority, because they can differ from place to place.

Documents you are likely to need

  • A valid passport, with enough validity for your planned study period.
  • Your academic certificates and transcripts.
  • Proof of English language ability, such as an IELTS result, where required.
  • An admission or offer letter from your chosen institution.
  • Evidence of funds, if the institution or visa process asks for it.
  • Certified translations of any documents not in the required language.

Where translation fits in

If your documents are not in the language the institution or authority requires, you will usually need accurate, and sometimes certified, translations. Our translation and interpretation service can help, and can advise when a certified translation is needed.

An honest word about visas

A complete, truthful and well-prepared application gives you the best chance, but no adviser can promise a visa or an admission. The final decision always rests with the receiving institution and the immigration authority.
